Any ideas

Okay, I know it's a competition, but. Laurie and Dani have both "won" competitions before. Give us some hints. What's the best way to go about it? I know most of us don't have 6 or 8 hours a day to work out. Any special eating plan that works better than the rest? Weight Watchers, South Beach, The Zone, or???
Anybody out there have any comments?

  1. I kinda do my own diet. I keep my calories at 1500 a day. I eat three meals and two to three snacks a day. I eat a protien every time. My goal is 60 grams of protien a day. No white carbs. No sugar, no white breads. If I want a carb it is my smallest portion and is whole wheat.
    For dinner I had 5 oz of london broil, 1 c. rice a roni multi grain and 1 c. green beans. My total calories for that was only 470 calories.
    I try to eat protien only for breakfast and very little carbs for lunch. I also aim for lots and lots of fiber.It is like a modified atkins. I've never done south beach so I don't know what that is. Also laughing cow has a light garlic and herb and a french onion that is so good. I eat one of those triangles (only 35 cal!) and if I am super hungry I add a ryecrisp multi grain cracker too for a snack. Try the laughing cow. SO good!
    Not sure if it works for you but for me it does.

  2. I have a few "diabetic cookbooks". I've probably done every "diet" on earth. I think just sticking to a reasonable amount of calories every day is the best way to go. Low glycemic foods, and keeping it real.
    HOWEVER< Lauri if you're nursing, 1500 calories isn't enough. You need at least 500 more to get proper nutrition for both of you. Think about it and ask your doctor. When I was a WW leader, nursing mothers got between 2,000 and 2,500 calories a day.

  3. I am just afraid that over 1500 I'll not lose. Don't ya think with all my extra weight I'll be able to keep my milk up?

  4. It's not so much about milk production as it is about nutrition. You need to have enough protein, vitamins, etc. to sustain life for two people.
    I think even if you add 500 calories a day, you will continue to lose. Try it, being careful to keep the nutritional guidelines. Unfortunately, that means no treats. :p}}
    The norm, if I remember is 4 to 6 dairy, 7 "breads" which includes potatoes, rice, etc.; 7 to 9 proteins; 5 or more veggies, and 4 or more fruits. You still only get 3 fats though.

    Give it a week or so and then re-assess.
